September 18, 2012 - BJ's Wholesale Club Partners with 199 Schools through its Adopt-a-School Program

BJ’s commitment to community and educational excellence continues

September 18, 2012 (Westborough, MA) - BJ’s Wholesale Club, Inc. today announced partnerships with 199 schools through the organization’s Adopt-a-School (ADAS) program. At the beginning of each school year, every BJ’s Wholesale Club partners with a local school to enhance students’ educational experience and provide students opportunities to grow into active citizens in their communities.

Now in its 17th year, BJ’s Adopt-a-School program has provided more than $1.5 million in funding to thousands of schools, helping ensure children receive a quality education.

One such example is the 2011 partnership between the Soule Elementary School and BJ’s Wholesale Club in Salem, NH. BJ’s Community Relations Assistant Manager Danielle Salvetti worked with the Soule School to incorporate community involvement and reading awareness.

“Last year, BJ’s in Salem offered assistance with fundraising, functions and most importantly, the Soule Reads Project,” said Salvetti. “I’m very proud that BJ’s and the Soule School worked in partnership to ensure that the 2011 Read Across America celebration was educational and memorable by providing every student with a book by author Kate DiCamillo to call his or her own.”

BJ’s offers two versions of the ADAS Program: "Giving" and "Grades".  Schools participating in the “Giving” program receive a one-time donation to use toward discretionary programs such as field trips and special events, reading enhancement programs or other educational needs.  The program also provides a complimentary BJ’s Membership.  In addition to the benefits in the Giving program, the “Grades” schools work with BJ’s Community Relations Specialists to develop customized partnership plans focused on curriculum enhancement, community involvement and fundraising. Schools are also invited to BJ’s-sponsored events that promote good citizenship or help build learning skills.
