Types of Membership

What is a Primary Member?
A Primary Member is the person who purchases a BJ’s Membership under his or her name. You may review your Membership status by referring to the lower-right corner of your Membership Card, immediately below your photo.

What is a Household Member?
If you are an Inner Circle® or BJ’s Rewards® (see below) Primary Member, you have the option of having one additional Membership Card on your account at no extra charge. This designated Household Member must be a family member who resides at your address or a full-time college student. Photo ID and proof of address are required.

Business and BJ’s Rewards® Business Memberships do not have Household Members but are allowed one Supplemental Member at no additional charge. (See next question for additional information.)

You may add or delete Household Members at any time during your Membership year, but you may not have more than one Household Member on your account at any time.

For full details, see BJ’s Membership Privileges and Conditions.

What is a Supplemental Member?
Supplemental Members are those Members whose names you add to your Primary Membership, granting them access to their own BJ’s Card. If you are an Inner Circle® or BJ’s Rewards® Primary Member, you may add up to 3 Supplemental Members to your account for a fee of $20* each. Supplemental Members must be family members residing at the same address or full-time college students. Photo ID and proof of address required.

If you are a BJ’s Business Primary or a BJ’s Rewards® Business Primary Member, you are allowed one Supplemental Member at no additional charge. You may also add up to 5 additional Supplemental Members to your account for a fee of $20 each. Your Supplemental Members may be family members, as above, or co-workers/employees of your company.

*Plus state and local taxes where applicable or required by law. Fee is prorated based on Primary Member’s expiration date at time of the addition.

Can I change my Supplemental Members from year to year?
Absolutely. It is up to the Primary Member to decide which Supplemental Memberships will be renewed. You may change, add or delete Supplemental Members at any time in-Club at the BJ’s Member Services Desk or online.

Membership Expiration and Renewal

How will I know that my Membership is about to expire?
BJ’s mails a renewal notice at the beginning of the month in which your Membership expires.

The cashier will also remind you that your Membership is about to expire. Also, your Membership expiration date is always printed at the bottom of your BJ’s sales receipt, as well as on the BJ’s Journal mailing panel, if you receive this publication. Lastly, if you have created an Online Profile, you will receive an automated email notifying you that it’s time to renew. You will also be notified at login.

If I decide to renew my Membership in person, do I have to go to the Club where I originally joined?
No. BJ’s Memberships may be renewed at any BJ’s, at any register. Our secure and instant Online Renewal, however, offers you the ultimate in convenience. It’s available to Primary and Supplemental Members who create an Online Profile.

When does my renewed Membership Card expire?
If you renew your Membership during your expiration month or within 3 months after the expiration month, you will retain your current expiration month for the renewed year. If you renew more than 3 months after your original expiration date, you will be issued a new expiration date at BJ’s discretion.

For more information on this policy, please see BJ’s Membership Privileges and Conditions.

Can my Household/First Supplemental Member renew before I do?
No. A Household/First Supplemental Member* is automatically renewed when the Primary Member renews. There is no separate renewal process required.

*Business Members are allowed one Supplemental Member at no charge. This individual is designated as the First Supplemental Member.

Can my Supplemental Members renew before I do?
No. You may renew your Supplemental Members at the same time that you renew your Membership, or afterward, but not before. Your Supplemental Members may also choose to renew themselves — provided you have not deleted them from your account — but only after you, the Primary Member, have renewed.

Do I have to renew all of my Supplemental Members when I renew?
No, you don’t. You may choose to renew all, some or none of the Supplemental Members on your account when you renew. You may also change your designated Household and Supplemental Members. It’s your choice.

Membership Cards

Can I lend my Membership Card to another person?
No. BJ’s Membership Cards are nontransferable. For security purposes, only you may use your Membership Card. Your Household/First Supplemental and Supplemental Members are also barred from lending their Cards to others. All Membership Cards are protected with the Cardholder’s photograph to prevent misuse by others.

Do I get a new BJ’s Membership Card when I renew?
No. You may keep your current Membership Card and use it just as you always have at the Club. The exceptions to this policy are:

When do my Supplemental and Household/First Supplemental Members’ Cards expire?
Supplemental and Household/First Supplemental Members’ Cards expire on the same date as the Primary Membership’s expiration.

Profile Management

Can I make a name change online if either my name or the name of one of my Supplemental or Household/First Supplemental Members has changed?
No. For security reasons, BJ’s does not accept name changes online for Primary, Household or Supplemental Members. Please visit your BJ’s Member Services Desk in-Club with any and all name changes. Photo ID required.

Can I make address changes online?
Yes. We highly encourage you to keep your account information up to date by maintaining your Profile. If you are a BJ’s Rewards® Member, it is particularly important for you to do so as your Payback will be sent to the address that we have on file for your account.

To access your Profile, you must first create a Password. If you joined online, you already have a Password and may simply sign in.

What is a Profile?
Your Profile is a summary of your BJ’s account information. If you are a Primary Member, it will include summaries of your Household/First Supplemental and Supplemental Member(s). After you create a Password and sign in to your Profile, you can make changes to your account information. (See above for details.)

Who has a Profile?
Only Inner Circle® Primary, Business Primary, BJ’s Rewards® Primary and Supplemental Members have Profiles at this time. If you are uncertain as to your Membership status, you will find it printed on the lower, right-hand corner of your Membership Card, directly beneath your photograph.

Why do I need to activate my Profile by creating a Password?
You need to activate your Profile in order to:

Can I change who I have listed as my Household/First Supplemental Member?
Yes. At any time during your Membership, you may delete a Household/First Supplemental Member at the BJ’s Member Services Desk in-Club and select a new one.

Your newly designated Household/First Supplemental Member will be required to obtain his or her own Membership Card. Photo ID required. Membership Cards for deleted Household/First Supplemental Members are invalid and can no longer be used.

If you do not currently have a designated Household/First Supplemental Member, you may add one online.

Can I add Supplemental Members to my Membership after I join — even if it’s not renewal time?
Yes. You may add additional Supplemental Members at any time for an adjusted fee based on your Primary Membership’s expiration date. For example, many parents purchase Supplemental Memberships for children going off to college.

Change, add or delete Supplemental Members online or at the BJ’s Member Services Desk in-Club.

Newly designated Supplemental Member(s) will be required to obtain their own Membership Cards. Photo ID required. Membership Cards for deleted Supplemental Members are invalid and can no longer be used. All current Supplemental Memberships expire on the same date as the Primary Membership.

You’re eligible to upgrade at any time during your Membership year — even if it’s not time to renew — at an adjusted fee based on the number of months remaining in your Membership.

Why should I upgrade now instead of at renewal?
So you can start earning 2% Payback* on your very next in-Club or BJs.com purchase. The more you shop, the more you earn — up to a total of $500 per 12-month period.

*Payback takes the form of a BJ’s Reward redeemable toward the future purchase of qualifying merchandise at BJ’s Club locations. Certain restrictions apply. Certain BJ’s Rewards® offers effective for a limited time. Only purchases by Primary and Household/First Supplemental Cardholders are eligible for 2% Payback. I want to become a BJ’s Rewards® Business Member. Can I do so online?
It depends on your current Membership status. If you are already a BJ’s Business Member, you may upgrade online.

If you are not already a BJ’s Business Member, you cannot become a BJ’s Rewards® Business Member online because all BJ’s Business Memberships require two documents showing your current business activity — invoices, business checks, business cards, etc. — as proof of business status at the time you initially join.

The following are also acceptable documents:

  1. A current city, county or state business license
  2. A qualified professional license (lawyer, doctor, architect, engineer, etc.)
  3. Purchasing authority from a government agency — either a state resale certificate or a state exemption certificate (Note: required if purchasing for resale)

Once you become a BJ’s Business Rewards Primary Member, you will be able to renew your Membership and make changes to your account, including changing, adding or deleting designated Supplemental Members, online. You may add up to a total of 6 Supplemental Members, and there is no charge for the First Supplemental Member.

Please note that only purchases by the Primary and First Supplemental Member accrue Rewards. Payback is issued to the Primary Member only and is sent to the current listed address. If you are unsure if your account address is up-to-date, check your account information online or contact Member Care. You may also call 1-800-BJS-CLUB (1-800-257-2582) Monday – Friday, 8:00 A.M. – 6:00 P.M. ET. and Saturday – Sunday, 9:00 A.M. – 6:00 P.M. ET.

How BJ’s Rewards Work

How do I get my BJ’s Rewards?
Rewards will be mailed to you at your current account address every 6 months in the form of a Payback.* Your Rewards are issued in increments of $50 and will arrive 4 – 6 weeks after each Rewards issuance date. Rewards are redeemable for most BJ’s in-Club merchandise and you can earn up to $500 per 12-month period.

Rewards are mailed to the address we have on file for you. So, it is very important that you inform BJ’s of any address changes. Manage your account yourself online. Or, call Member Care at 1-800-BJS-CLUB (1-800-257-2582) Monday – Friday, 8:00 A.M. – 6:00 P.M. ET. and Saturday – Sunday, 9:00 A.M. – 6:00 P.M. ET.

Rewards are not valid toward online purchases at BJs.com. See BJ’s Rewards® Membership Privileges and Conditions online or at the Member Services Desk in-Club for full details.

What if my BJ’s Rewards Payback is not divisible by $50 increments?
Rewards Paybacks for less than $50 will be issued for the exact amount due. For example, $178 in Payback will be issued as three $50 Rewards and one $28 Reward.

Do I earn 2% Payback on any of my previous purchases?
No. You start earning your 2% Payback — up to a total of $500 per 12-month period — on the date of your upgrade.

Are all purchases eligible for the 2% Payback?
No. A limited number of purchases are not eligible for 2% Payback. See BJ’s Rewards® Membership Privileges and Conditions for more information about Payback eligibility.

Will I receive a new BJ’s Rewards® Membership Card when I upgrade?
Yes. Once you’ve upgraded, you may exchange your current BJ’s Membership Card for your new BJ’s Rewards Membership Card at the BJ’s Member Services Desk. Your Household/First Supplemental Member and Supplemental Members may continue to use their current Membership Cards. They will not be issued new Cards.

Rewards accrual and access to exclusive benefits begin immediately upon enrollment — even if you don’t exchange your Membership Card. Please see the following item for important information regarding Rewards accrual.

If I become a BJ’s Rewards® Member, does that mean all of my Supplemental Members do, too?
No. If you are a BJ’s Rewards Primary Member or a BJ’s Rewards® Business Primary Member, your BJ’s 2% Payback applies only to purchases made by you or by your Household/First Supplemental Cardholder. BJ’s Business Membership Company Cards do not accrue Rewards.

Please note that Payback is issued to the Primary Member only and is sent to the current listed address. If you are unsure if your account address is up-to-date, check your online account information or call Member Care at 1-800-BJS-CLUB (1-800-257-2582) Monday – Friday, 8:00 A.M. – 6:00 P.M. ET. and Saturday – Sunday, 9:00 A.M. – 6:00 P.M. ET.

Read the BJ’s Rewards® Membership Privileges and Conditions for complete details.

If I want to downgrade to an Inner Circle® or Business Membership — when may I do it? Will I lose my Rewards?
You may downgrade to Inner Circle or Business Membership at renewal after your BJ’s Rewards® Membership has expired. Renew and change your status online or in-Club at the Member Services Desk.

Rewards accumulated up to your expiration date will be honored.

If your question has not been answered, please Contact Us or call 1-800-BJS-CLUB (1-800-257-2582) Monday – Friday, 8:00 A.M. – 6:00 P.M. ET. and Saturday – Sunday, 9:00 A.M. – 6:00 P.M. ET.
