Sumos are one of the world’s largest and sweetest mandarins, celebrated for its incredible taste and distinct looks. This rare seedless variety, derived from Satsuma, Orange and Mandarin, was originally cultivated in Japan. Generally known as the shiranui variety in Japan, it was nicknamed the "dekopon" in reference to its uneven skin, and its distinctive Top Knot. Seedlings were first imported into the US in 1998 as dedicated farmers in California learned how to grow and maintain incredibly high growing standards. A Sumo citrus can be eaten like an orange or mandarin. Its peel is extremely easy to remove, and so segments will probably become your go-to method of eating. You can also incorporate this fruit into your cooking and baking, make a sweet salad dressing, or blend with other fruits in a smoothie. Sumos are full of vitamin C and also contains 10% of the Daily Value for potassium.
