Granny Smith apples are famously green with a tart flavor. They are a firm and juicy apple with thick skin. Their bright green skin is often speckled with faint white lenticels (spots). Their flesh is bright white and crisp in texture with a tart, acidic, yet subtly sweet flavor. Granny Smith apples are medium to large in size and round in shape. They are a late harvest variety and so one of the last varieties an orchard will pick, typically at the end of October. They grow primarily in the state of Washington, but Granny Smith apples that are grown in colder climates will often take on a yellow to pink blush.
