When you buy seafood from BJ’s, you can feel confident it meets the highest standards for sustainability.  Because it’s not just a trendy catchphrase to us; it’s our promise that we’ll help protect the world’s oceans and waterways — and the natural resources they provide — for years to come without compromising safety, quality or value. Here’s how we are working toward 100% sustainable seafood.

We’re Not Experts. So We Found Some.

Our partnerships with global leaders in seafood sustainablity gave us the tool kit we needed to meet our goal of 100% sustainable seafood:

• To evaluate and improve fisheries and fish farms, we rely on research and best practices provided by the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership. This NGO’s tools and methods help us engage directly with suppliers, empowering us to be more responsible in our purchases of natural resources.

• To evaluate current and potential suppliers of wild-captured seafood we use standards drafted by the Marine Stewardship Council, the world’s leading certification and ecolabelling program for sustainable seafood.

• Standards drafted by the Global Aquaculture Alliance, an international, non-profit trade association dedicated to advancing environmentally and socially responsible aquaculture, help us evaluate current and potential suppliers of farmed seafood.

• Independent, third-party social accountability auditors evaluate working conditions at all of our seafood suppliers. You can rest assured our seafood is produced with the strictest standards for social responsibility and human rights.
