Unexpectedly delicious

For context, I am somewhat of a coffee enthusiast and own an SCA-certified auto-drip machine (GE Specialty Cafe). I also brew with a Moka Pot, French Press, and I just started getting into the V60. I also grind my own beans with a handheld steel burr grinder. I drink specialty coffees in the aftern...oon (Kona and Ethiopia are my favorites), but in the morning, I usually use cheap coffee just to get the caffeine. Since I had a BJ's coupon to try this Pike Roast, I decided to give this a try instead of the big Maxwell House tub that I usually buy here. So far, I have brewed it with the coffee machine and the V60, and I must say I was totally blown away after my first sip. I expected this would be cheap, bad coffee that was maybe a step above Folgers or Maxwell House, but this was surprisingly good. It has a mid to strong levels of chocolate flavor with almost a hint of peppermint. It is best to drink this coffee black since I found that even a tiny bit of creamer diminished these flavors. It's yet to be seen how long it will stay fresh since these are pre-ground beans, but this coffee might become one of my new favorites. One note on the roast. Although it says this is a medium roast, it looks to me like a dark roast since it is almost black instead of the usual chestnut brown I get in other medium-roasted beans. I do not usually like dark roasted coffee, but this might be a new exception for me. Definitely recommend you try it!
