They were developed by cross-pollination of the honeygold and Macoun. Honeycrisp apples are aromatic and sweet as honey with an explosive, juicy, crisp texture. They contain a balance of sugar and acid, giving Honeycrisp apples a pleasant sweet-tart flavor that varies in strength, depending upon the maturity of the apple. Its sweetness and tartness make it a great raw snack. But it also is great for baking and cooking too. While some apples break down into sauce more easily than others, it doesn’t matter as long as you can mash it with a fork or potato masher. Sweet apples, like Honeycrisp, will give you a sweet sauce. Honeycrisp apples have an amazing storage life. Their flavor and texture can be maintained for up to seven months with proper refrigeration.
