The Hami melon is a type of muskmelon, originally from Hami, Xinjiang, China. It is also referred to as the Chinese Hami melon or the snow melon. It looks very similar to a cantaloupe although it is oblong instead of spherical. The outer color is white with pink, yellow and green hues. The inside flesh is sweet and crisp. Hami melons are low in calories and are an excellent source of vitamins A and C. They are also rich in potassium and a good source of antioxidants. There high water content makes them a hydrating food. It is best kept at room temperature when whole, and then stored in the fridge when cut for up to 5 days.
